Paul Dibden, who is now our club President, started the club in 1988 with four runners, meeting at a local cricket club. As membership grew the club moved to Crestwood College, where membership grew over the years to 200.
In 2010 the move was made to Fleming Park Leisure Centre (now Places for PeopleLeisure), and during the next 3 years membership continued to grow to 300.
From the outset the club managed to combine sharp competitiveness with a great social atmosphere, something we strive to maintain today. All runners have always been welcomed, from the once-or-twice-a-week keep-fit runner, to the international athlete representing Team-GB. There has never been an ability-hierarchy in Eastleigh Running Club – everybody is equal, and all mix socially.
The first public race we organised was the Chandlers Ford 10K, which grew in popularity over the years, until the increase in volume of traffic forced us to make a move to Marwell Zoo, where we organised the very popular Marwell 10K for many years. In 2012 we parted with Marwell and took over the prestigious B&Q Eastleigh 10k Road Race.
